Dr. Letizia Liiro Peluso

LiSTAR Postdoctoral fellow

Dr Letizia Liirò Peluso is a postdoctoral research fellow founded by The Faraday Institution. She joined the LiSTAR project in May 2024 and her work focuses on the use of electrochemical methodologies for the mechanistic understanding of next generation lithium sulfur battery energy storage devices. Before joining LiSTAR, Letizia was awarded the EPSRC Doctoral Prize fellowship and joined NAMI as an independent researcher with a project on manufacturing and characterization of next generation organic-based photovoltaics. After obtaining her MSc in Supramolecular Chemistry and Nanotechnology from the University of Messina (Italy), Letizia was awarded her PhD in Materials Chemistry from the University of Nottingham in March 2023 developing methodologies for characterizing thin films of organic semiconductors for photovoltaics applications. She became an expert in atomic force microscopy applied to soft matter and in the investigation of spectroscopic properties of thin films showing chiroptical activity. As active member of the scientific community, Letizia delivers tutorials to undergraduates and takes part to outreach activities (Soap Box speaker and Women in Chemistry). Her work has led to several high impact publications and to the award of the RSC 2022 Materials Chemistry Division Horizon Prize: Stephanie L Kwolek Award, a team-based prize for the invention of chiral organic materials that allow high control of photon and electron spin.
